PUBLIC NOTICE: Field Survey for Proposed Water Main Project (Lake Point to West Lakes)

June 23 - July 3 (8:00AM-5:00PM)
Proposed water main project

BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT

The Town of Round Hill needs to survey and design a planned 12-inch diameter water main that will extend from Ridgewood Place to Shrewsbury Court.  This line will provide an important link for improving water system reliability for the Lake Point Neighborhood and the West Lake/Bluffs Communities. This important project will include a non-intrusive crossing under Sleeter Lake for the water main pipe. This project has been planned since the Lake Point Neighborhood was constructed.

WHAT CAN BE EXPECTED?

Surveyors will be onsite between June 23 and July 3. Hours of operations are between 8:00AM and 5:00PM. In addition to marking utility lines, flagging, and surveying, the field work will also include the use of a drone and a small, unmanned boat.

The survey work will not affect water service or require any street closures. Please be aware of crews working and use caution while traveling in the area. If access to your property is required, you will receive direct communication at least 48 hours in advance.

WHY IS THIS PROJECT NEEDED?

The need to interconnect the water system along the bottom of Sleeter Lake has been identified for many years. There currently is one only water main going into the Lake Point Neighborhood. Water line breaks can happen due to aging pipes, construction accidents, or natural events like freezing temperatures. If there is only one water main line, a break could mean the entire neighborhood loses water (over 750 people live in Lake Point). With multiple water lines (sometimes called redundant or looped systems), water can be rerouted from another direction, keeping service running even if one line is down. It is like having a backup route to keep things flowing. It also means faster repairs with less disruption. When a break occurs, utility crews can isolate just the damaged section without shutting off water to everyone. That means faster repairs and fewer people affected.

WILL THIS PROPOSED PROJECT IMPACT THE LAKE?

The proposed project is to construct a water line along the bottom of the lake in a way to avoid impact on any recreational uses and aquatic life.  Only a small area of pipe excavation will be needed to trench the pipe to the lake.  No visible infrastructure will result from this project and no changes to the lake will result from this work.
